Acetylcysteine

Indications/Uses

Flemex-AC Mucolytic for acute & chronic affections of the resp tract w/ mucous & mucopurulent secretions. Flemex-AC OD Reduces viscosity of secretion from resp tract. Antidote for paracetamol overdosage.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Flemex-AC Adult 200 mg tid for 5-10 days. Childn >2 yr 100 mg bid-tid. Flemex-AC OD Adult & childn >6 yr Reduce viscosity of secretions 600 mg once-bid. Paracetamol overdosage antidote Administer w/in 8 hr of paracetamol ingestion & may still be effective when given 24 hr or longer after ingestion. Loading dose: When given as 5% soln, 140 mg/kg followed by a maintenance dose of 70 mg/kg every 4 hr for 17 doses. Repeat dose if patient vomits the loading or maintenance dose w/in 1 hr of administration.

Administration

Should be taken with food: Dissolve in ½ glass of water.

Contraindications

Flemex-AC OD Phenylketonuria.

Special Precautions

Flemex-AC Asthma.

Adverse Reactions

Flemex-AC OD Slight GI disturbances (nausea, dyspepsia, pyrosis).

Drug Interactions

Flemex-AC OD Administer w/ 1-2 hr apart from other oral antibiotics other than amoxicillin, doxycycline & thiamphenicol to avoid possible interaction w/ thiol group.
